Dracula, a Musical by Paul Michael Brown

McKeesport Little Theater is excited to be bringing Paul Michael Brown’s Dracula, a Musical to our stage once again!  With music by Al Snyder and Executive Produced by Rita Brown, Paul’s Mother, Dracula, a Musical is not your typical “stake in the heart” vampire tale but rather a hauntingly beautiful love story.

Mina Van Helsing’s life is on the brink of drastic change!  As the daughter of the renowned psychiatrist, Dr. Van Helsing, Mina has been raised in considerable comfort even though the basement of the Van Helsing Estate is an asylum for the insane.  Jonathan and Lucy Harker are the adopted wards of Dr. Van Helsing since childhood, and it is here, on the outskirts of London in the early spring of 1927, that we find Mina engaged to Jonathan.  A storm arises on the night they were to have their engagement party which has been canceled, not due to the storm but due to the bizarre murder of Sylvia, Mina’s dearest friend and intended bridesmaid.  The household is on edge awaiting the capture of Renfield, a patient of Dr. Van Helsing, who is a suspect in Sylvia’s murder and other recent nearby killings.  Lucy, always a petulant child, is consumed by an overwhelming desire to escape the confines of her caged existence. Into this brewing cauldron of disturbing events steps a mysterious and strikingly handsome visitor, Count Dracula.  Why does this stranger evoke such new emotions in Mina?  Why does she feel the nascent seed of passion that Jonathan’s self-control and aloofness never sparked?  Is it Count Dracula’s disturbing declaration that Mina’s countenance is the very same of his long ago fiance?  Will anyone else die?  Will Renfield be captured?  Will Mina act on her emotions?  Get your tickets now to see how the story unfolds.

Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $12.00 for students with a valid ID or under 18.  To make your reservations please call the theater at 412-673-1100 and leave your name, phone number, the date of the performance you wish to see, and how many tickets you need.  There are no online reservations for this show.  No one will call you back about your reservation unless we have a question or concern.  After 5:00 PM for same day viewing, you will need to purchase your tickets at the box office.

We can’t wait to see you, again!!

The MLT Juniors present: Seussical

A musical perfect for the whole family, Seussical takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides us into The Jungle of Nool where we see Horton, the kind hearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville. He meets JoJo, a Who child sent to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton decides he must protect the speck of dust on a nearby clover, while at the same time protecting an abandoned egg left to his care by the lazy Mayzie la Bird. Horton tries to convince the other animals in The Jungle of the existence of the Whos, but he is ridiculed and put on trial for insanity. Only his loyal neighbor, Gertrude McFuzz, never loses faith in him. Seussical weaves a story of friendship, loyalty, and love. Despite all odds, Horton and Gertrude band together to save the Whos, free Horton, and restore peace and unity to the Jungle of Nool. Charming Seussical teaches us the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for your beliefs.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 pm.  Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 pm.

Exit the Body by Fred Charmichael

Exit the Body is a full-length comedy-mystery by Fred Carmichael. What do a mystery writer, jewel thieves, a dead body or two and a New England house all have in common? Find out as four different couples search for missing bodies and hidden gems with hilarious results, guaranteed to keep your audience guessing and laughing until the very end.

Successful mystery novelist Crane Hammond rents an old house in New England to rest up before she begins writing yet another bestseller. However, the house is the rendezvous point for a band of thieves searching frantically for a stash of jewels. The focal point of the set is the closet which opens into a living room and a library. A body found in the closet promptly disappears (hence the title) only to be succeeded by another. The hunt for the jewels reaches a climax at two A.M. when four couples unknown to each other turn up to search. With the chance of finding stolen treasure, you have to look…right? Not since the days of Mack Sennett’s slapstick comedies has there been such an hilarious series of entrances and exits.

Exit the Body premiered in 1961 at the Dorset Playhouse in Dorset, Vermont by the Caravan Theatre Summer Stock Company. It’s been a popular and a favourite play for high school, college, and community theatre productions ever since.
